Pots and pellets
There are several kinds of small pots, pellets, cubes and other small containers available for use in transplanting. Jiffy-7 pellets are compressed sterile sphagnum peat and soil with added fertilizer, all enclosed in a plastic net The pellet expands to form a small container (13/4" x 2") when placed in water. The seed is planted directly in the pellet just before this watering. Jiffy pots are available in several forms: Jiffy-7 Special, with a preformed quarter-inch hole, ideal for cuttings; Jiffy-7 Trays, prepackaged pellets in green plastic trays; and Jiffy-9, which is held together with a binder instead of a net
Other brands include BR-8 Gro-Blocks, which are fiber blocks containing fertilizer; Fertil-Cubes and Gro-Blocks, which are made from a blend of mosses, plant food and vermiculite, and each of which has a depression for planting seed; Peat Pots, which are made of fiber and should be filled with synthetic soil.
